Technická Univerzita Ostrava

BREAKING IDEAS, ALL WELCOME

We were founded almost 170 years ago, in 1849, as a public institution providing higher education in technical and economic sciences. More then 21, 000 students attend our 7 faculties and two progressive extra-faculty programmes. Our Innovation Support Centre works had on making science popular by showing how it can be the prime contributor to economic well-being, by making scientists speak with the wider public. By doing so, we hope to raise the interest of young people in pursuing a scientific career. Together with our partners, in STEMFORYOUTH we will steer the contents of our 7 disciplines courses.

Some of our activities

SCIENCE, MADE PRACTICAL
In parallel with tuition, our teachers and students conduct research and development that has a benefit for everyday life. They help doctors, they assist the police. They have constructed rescue robots for fire-fighters. They solve concrete energy issues. They have developed environmentally friendly battery-powered locomotives. They enable the construction of stronger high-rice buildings with better earthquake resistance. Breaking ideas. All welcome.

MATH WITH JOY
Play with us and make new friends through our set of games, quizzes and tests, become an expert in mathematics in a fun way. No more heavy books, just multimedia courses and interactive material, all for you.

TEACHING, FORWARD
Our platform of the Elementary and secondary school for the future project gives teachers and education institutions new programmes and pedagogical methods focused on mathematics, engineering and natural sciences. The platform also supports new training centers and make young students take corporate internships with companies, introducing them to the working world.

OLD MATERIALS, NEW SKILLS
What is oil made of? How about metals, gases and other raw materials? Are computing skills only for those who want to work in IT? What are the newest technologies to build a house? And also, how to apply decision-making and management of economics to any sort of job? These are some of the skills taught in our Opportunities for young researchers project.

COMPUTERS WITH SUPERPOWERS
Come and see one of the biggest supercomputers in Europe, directly at our University.

SAY WHAT YOU WANT
Our popular lectures named Without Censorship give students and the public the chance to speak about hot topics in science and life. Are aliens a reality? Artificial intelligence, pro or against? What do you think about the latest technologies to build new weapons? Are we the first civilization on Earth? What will be the future of computing technology? Is it possible to create a cyborg?

LIGHT UP!
Generate electricity while cycling and turn on a light bulb with the energy you create. Make a robot from many 3d jigsaw pieces. These and many more are our the activities of our local popularization events.
